MONROVIA – Grand Kru County District #2 Representative, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, has expressed deep sorrow over two tragic incidents in the Jloh Statutory District area in Grand Kru County that claimed multiple lives, including that of a pregnant woman. In a heartfelt message posted to his official Facebook page on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, Representative Koffa offered condolences to the grieving families and emphasized the urgent need for improved road connectivity in the region.
“Our hearts go out to the people of Jloh following two tragic incidents that claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and several others. We mourn with the families and pray for comfort during this difficult time,” the former House Speaker wrote.
While the specific circumstances surrounding the incidents were not detailed in the post, residents of Jloh have long faced dangerous travel conditions, often relying on precarious river crossings in the absence of passable roads.
Representative Koffa, who has served as one of Grand Kru’s leading political figures, used the moment of mourning to renew his call for the construction of a vital roadway linking several key communities in the southeastern county. He emphasized the need for a road connecting Wakpo, through Newtown in Dorboh Statutory District, to the Nifu community in Jloh Statutory District.
“These painful losses highlight the urgent need to connect all parts of our county with decent roads, starting with the road from Wakpo through Newtown community in Dorboh Statutory District to Nifu community in Jloh Statutory District,” Koffa stated.
According to the lawmaker, such infrastructure would reduce reliance on dangerous river crossings and help avert similar tragedies in the future. He noted that beyond safety, a connected road system would bring long-term socioeconomic benefits to the residents of Grand Kru, who continue to struggle with access to basic services.
“Reducing reliance on river crossings will save lives and bring lasting benefits to our people,” Koffa added.
He further affirmed his dedication to pushing forward the road project as a critical component of his legislative priorities and community legacy.
“We remain committed to making this road a reality. It will stand as a meaningful part of our service and legacy,” he concluded.
