IS COLE BANGALU QUITTING FORMER RULING UNITY PARTY?

Date:

LIBERIA – An encrypted Facebook post by a stalwart of the opposition Unity Party has left Liberians debating his political future.

Mr. Cole Jeror Bangalu, a senior member of the UP shocked the party faithful this morning with his encrypted Facebook post: “Quitting in two weeks.”

Sources say Cole Bangalu is unhappy about the Lofa election in which a ruling party supported an Independent candidate, Cllr. Joseph Jallah won.

Bangalu himself had attempted to contest one of the two Lofa County’s senatorial seats but was allegedly blocked twice by the party standard bearer, Mr. Joseph Boakai.

Our sources state that he was stopped in the 2017 elections and recently, in the just-ended by-election which was intended to fill the vacant seat; caused by the disqualification of Brownie Samukai.

Mr. Bangalu could not be reached by Smart News, but the “Quit in two weeks” encrypted post left several Liberians conjecturing about the young Liberian politician’s next move.

Bangalu, is a former member of the ruling CDC, and the post may have sent a shockwave in the spins of unity party members who see Bangalu as one of the young and progressive members of the former ruling party.

The ruling CDC is on a recruitment spree to woo its former members; and the recapture of the young lawyer could be a very good catch for the ruling party as presidential and general elections get closer.

The UP stalwart post is a cause for worry for former Vice President Boakai and his partisans; because he’s seen as a very important personality who’s being considered one of the potential leaders of the Unity Party.
