MONROVIA – Jefferson Koijee, Secretary General of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), has extended his congratulations to President Joseph Nyumah Boakai for signing Executive Order #131, establishing the War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia. In his statement posted on his official Facebook page, Koijee praised President Boakai for bringing impunity to its demise and acknowledged the role of the Legislature and the resilience of all Liberians in achieving this milestone.
Koijee also commended the courage of six out of nine former TRC Commissioners who signed a document that can be used as a working tool for today’s development, despite threats from former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. He expressed gratitude to former Chairman Mulbah K. Morlu and others who fought for the establishment of the court, noting that this victory is beyond imagination.
The establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court is seen as a crucial step towards bringing perpetrators to justice and ending the culture of impunity in Liberia. Koijee expressed hope that this development will lead to a new era of accountability and social justice in the country.
