MONROVIA – Former Vice President of Liberia and standard bearer of the National Patriotic Party (NPP), Madam Jewel Howard-Taylor, has suffered a devastating personal loss following the reported death of her only biological son, Charles Phillip Taylor Jr., popularly known as Philip Taylor.
Information confirmed by sources familiar with the matter and officials of the National Patriotic Party indicates that Mr. Taylor was pronounced dead at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFK) in Sinkor, Monrovia, after being rushed there for emergency medical care.
Reports state that Mr. Taylor initially suffered a respiratory arrest while receiving treatment at the GIMS Hospital in the Sophie Community, Paynesville. Medical sources disclosed that his condition worsened rapidly, necessitating his immediate transfer to JFK Hospital for advanced intervention.
Upon arrival at JFK Medical Center, Mr. Taylor was reportedly in a coma and placed under intensive medical supervision. Despite efforts by medical personnel, he was later pronounced dead. The precise time and medical cause of death have not been officially disclosed.
As of the time of this report, the Taylor family has not released a formal statement regarding the death. Likewise, health authorities and hospital officials have not issued an official medical briefing, leaving key details surrounding the incident limited.
Charles Phillip Taylor Jr. was the son of former First Lady and former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor and the late former President Charles Ghankay Taylor. Despite his family’s prominent political background, he largely maintained a private life away from public attention.
In July 2023, Mr. Taylor earned a Master’s degree in Shipping and Port Administration from the Regional Maritime University in Accra, Ghana, marking a significant academic achievement and reflecting his professional focus beyond politics.
Medical officials at both GIMS Hospital and the John F. Kennedy Medical Center have so far refrained from making public statements, and there has been no confirmation of an autopsy or further medical clarification.
The death of Charles Phillip Taylor Jr. marks a profound and deeply personal tragedy for Madam Jewel Howard-Taylor, bringing to a close the life of a young Liberian whose future appeared anchored in professional advancement rather than public political life.
