KOLUBAH PLEDGES CONTINUED OPPOSITION UNTIL UP GOVERNMENT FULFILLS PROMISES

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA — Rep. Yekeh Kolubah, a prominent critic of the ruling Unity Party, has voiced strong dissatisfaction with the current administration under President Joseph Boakai. Kolubah, who represents Montserrado County District #10, initially supported the Unity Party during the 2023 presidential campaign, driven by the party’s promises of transparency, accountability, and an open government.

However, since the Unity Party’s inauguration on January 22, 2024, Kolubah has turned sharply against the administration he once endorsed. He has publicly criticized the government for not living up to its campaign commitments. In recent statements, Kolubah declared, “If the system wasn’t better yesterday and isn’t better today, we will change it,” underscoring his discontent with the current state of governance.

Kolubah’s criticism extends to accusations of widespread corruption within the Executive branch, including targeting President Boakai personally. He has voiced concerns over what he perceives as a lack of progress and adherence to the transparency and accountability that were central to the Unity Party’s election platform.

Despite the Unity Party being just seven months into its six-year term, Kolubah remains resolute in his opposition. He has vowed to maintain his vocal stance until the government demonstrates a genuine commitment to its promises. His repeated calls for reform reflect his ongoing frustration with the administration’s performance.

Kolubah’s position is significant given his past support for the party and his current role as a lawmaker. His transition from supporter to critic highlights the deepening political divide and the challenges facing the Unity Party as it navigates its early term.

As the administration continues to face with these issues, Kolubah’s ongoing advocacy for change and accountability will likely remain a key aspect of Liberia’s political scene. The lawmaker’s commitment to scrutinizing the government reflects a wider demand for effective governance and reform.
