MONROVIA – On Monday, July 15, 2024, the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) took part in the official opening ceremony of the Public Hearings into the Auditor General’s reports, organized by the Joint Public Accounts & Expenditure Committee (PAC) of the 55th Legislature. The event, held at the Capitol Building, represents a significant move towards promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance in Liberia.
The ceremony saw attendance from key government officials, civil society representatives, and international partners, all underscoring the necessity of addressing the findings and recommendations contained in the Auditor General’s reports. These reports play a vital role in identifying areas of financial mismanagement and corruption, ensuring that appropriate corrective measures are taken.
The LACC commended the Joint Public Accounts & Expenditure Committee for its diligence and dedication in holding public officials accountable. The LACC remains committed to its mission of combating corruption through investigation, prosecution, prevention, and public education. Participating in the PAC’s public hearings aligns with the Commission’s strategic objectives to foster a culture of accountability and strengthen institutional frameworks for better governance.
As the hearings progress, the LACC will continue to offer its expertise and support to the PAC, ensuring that all findings are thoroughly examined and appropriate actions are taken. The Commission urges all stakeholders, including the public, to remain engaged in these processes, which are fundamental to the nation’s development and democratic integrity.
“The LACC will maintain its steadfast approach to addressing corruption and promoting transparency within the government,” a spokesperson for the Commission stated. “We believe that these public hearings are crucial for reinforcing the principles of good governance and ensuring that public resources are managed responsibly.”
