LACC VICE EXECUTIVE CHAIRPERSON VACANCY: BOAKAI FORMS SELECTION COMMITTEE

EXECUTIVE MANSION, MONROVIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has officially constituted an Ad Hoc Committee to oversee the process of filling the vacant position of Vice Executive Chairperson at the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC). According to an Executive Mansion press release issued Thursday, November 27, 2025, the move is in accordance with Section 6.10 of the Amended LACC Act of 2022, which sets out the procedures for recruiting and recommending candidates for this critical leadership role.

The press release stated that the Committee will be chaired by the President’s Legal Advisor, Cllr. Bushuben M. Keita, and will include representatives from the General Auditing Commission (GAC), the Governance Commission (GC), Liberia Bar Association (LBA), Press Union of Liberia (PUL), civil society, the Liberia Institute of Certified Public Accountants (LICPA), and the international donor community providing technical assistance in anti-corruption initiatives.

The Executive Mansion emphasized that the Ad Hoc Committee’s mandate will be comprehensive, beginning with the public announcement and call for applications for the Vice Executive Chairperson position. “The Committee shall ensure that all publications are made in accordance with the LACC Act and the requirements governing the vacant role,” the release noted.

Applications will be rigorously evaluated, with the Committee prioritizing candidates with expertise in forensic accounting and auditing. The press release indicated that all applications will be assessed within fifteen working days following the submission deadline, and shortlisted candidates will be interviewed within thirty working days, ensuring adherence to gender and county representation requirements.

The Committee is tasked with submitting a vetted list of two candidates to the President for consideration within thirty-five working days from the application deadline. According to the Executive Mansion, this timeline is intended to ensure a transparent, merit-based, and efficient selection process that reflects best practices in governance and anti-corruption standards.

President Boakai’s decision to establish the Committee underscores the administration’s commitment to transparency and integrity within Liberia’s anti-corruption institutions. The press release emphasized that the process is designed to strengthen public trust in the LACC and to ensure that leadership appointments are based on merit rather than political influence.

The inclusion of representatives from various oversight bodies, professional associations, and the international donor community is expected to enhance accountability and credibility in the recruitment process. By engaging multiple stakeholders, the administration aims to reinforce public confidence in the impartiality and fairness of the selection.

The timely filling of the Vice Executive Chairperson position is crucial for the LACC, which continues to play a pivotal role in investigating corruption, promoting ethical standards in public service, and ensuring compliance with Liberia’s anti-corruption framework. The Executive Mansion reiterated that the Ad Hoc Committee will operate with full transparency and accountability throughout the recruitment process.
