MARGIBI COUNTY – The Management of Radio Peace 96.5MHz in Margibi has strongly condemned the assault on one of its intern reporters, Emmanuel T. Lloyd, who was attacked while performing his duties on Saturday, April 6, 2025, in Charlesvillie Margibi County.
In a press release posted on their official Facebook page on late Tuesday evening, April 8, 2025, says the incident occurred during a public altercation involving staff members of Margibi District #2 Representative Ivar Jones and Robert Francis Okai, a vocal critic of Representative Ivar K. Jones.
Mr. Lloyd, who was at the scene to document the confrontation as part of his journalistic assignment, was attacked by individuals believed to be affiliated with Rep. Jones. The attackers reportedly seized Mr. Lloyd’s mobile phones and deleted all journalistic contents, including photographs and videos of the incident.
This attack, as stated by Radio Peace FM, is a flagrant violation of press freedom and a direct threat to the safety and dignity of journalists in Liberia. The radio station’s management has expressed its grave concern over the incident, highlighting the severe implications for the freedom of the press, as guaranteed by the Liberian Constitution and international law. Radio Peace FM has called for urgent intervention from the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) and other media advocacy groups to ensure justice is served.
Radio Peace FM further emphasized that no journalist should be subjected to violence or intimidation while performing their duty to inform the public. The station has urged the relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
In the statement, the Management of Radio Peace FM reaffirmed its commitment to ethical journalism and the protection of its staff, including interns. The station promised to continue pursuing the matter until the perpetrators are held accountable and justice is achieved.
