LDEA SEIZES LARGE QUANTITY OF DRUGS IN GRAND GEDEH COUNTY

Date:

GRAND GEDEH COUNTY, LIBERIA – The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) detachment in Grand Gedeh has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against illicit drugs in the region. On Saturday, June 29, 2024, officers arrested a suspect, Alex Gbarwea, believed to be in his 30s, during a routine patrol in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.

Papa Garmou, the LDEA Commander, briefed journalists on the operation, revealing that the seized drugs have an estimated street value of over L$500,000.00. Commander Garmou emphasized the LDEA’s commitment to combating the use and distribution of illegal drugs within the county, vowing to intensify efforts to curb this growing menace.

“We are determined to do all we can to fight the use of illicit drugs within the county,” Garmou stated. The arrest of Alex Gbarwea marks a significant step in the LDEA’s ongoing campaign to rid Grand Gedeh of narcotics and ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.

The LDEA’s proactive approach in patrolling and monitoring key areas in Grand Gedeh County has been crucial in intercepting drug traffickers and preventing the distribution of harmful substances. The recent seizure highlights the agency’s resolve to tackle drug-related crimes head-on.

As investigations continue, the LDEA is urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking. The agency also calls for community support in its efforts to create a drug-free environment and promote healthy living standards in Grand Gedeh County.

The arrest and seizure serve as a reminder of the challenges posed by drug trafficking in Liberia. It underscores the importance of sustained collaboration between law enforcement agencies and local communities to effectively address and mitigate the impact of illicit drugs on society.
