MONROVIA – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested two individuals in separate high-profile operations, confiscating large quantities of Tramadol, cocaine, Kush, and marijuana. The suspects, Mohammed M. Sheriff, 38, and Massa Kandakai, 48, were taken to the Monrovia City Court on Thursday to face multiple charges under Liberia’s New Amended Drug Law.
Sheriff was intercepted on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Bo-Waterside checkpoint while transporting 1,067 packs of Tramadol, a prescription painkiller frequently misused for illicit purposes. Authorities estimate the street value at $112,315.78 USD, or about L$21.3 million. Sheriff admitted transporting the package but claimed he was unaware it contained drugs, saying a friend identified only as “Joshua” had asked him to deliver it.
In a separate operation on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, LDEA officers raided Kandakai’s residence in Old Road, Via Town, confiscating 23 grams of cocaine valued at $1,242 USD, 98 grams of Kush valued at $1,960 USD, and 199 grams of marijuana worth approximately $19.90 USD.
Both suspects are currently held at Monrovia Central Prison pending trial. The LDEA emphasized that these arrests reflect its ongoing commitment to enforcing Liberia’s drug laws and combating illegal trafficking.
“These operations demonstrate our determination to protect public health and safety by curbing the distribution of controlled substances,” the agency stated. Authorities are continuing investigations into the origins of the drugs and potential links to larger trafficking networks, urging the public to report suspicious activities.
