MONROVIA – The President of the Republic of Liberia and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia, Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., has accepted the resignation of Mr. Prince C. Johnson, the recently confirmed Minister of National Defense.
In his resignation letter, Minister Johnson cited the ongoing political and civil disturbances resulting from the protests by women believed to be wives of service men as the reason for his decision. He expressed his commitment to preserving the peace and security of the State by stepping down from his position.
The President expressed his gratitude to Minister Johnson for his invaluable service to the country and described him as a patriot.
In another development, the President has issued instructions to the Army to ensure the immediate removal of individuals who are impeding the free movement of people and vehicles by blocking major thoroughfares across the country. The President is determined to address the grievances of these individuals and restore normalcy.
The President will deliver a national address this evening, where he will address these recent developments and provide further updates.
