LIBERIA: DEPUTY FINANCE MINISTER WOLOKOLIE BOOED AT GRADUATION CEREMONY

Date:

MONROVIA – Deputy Finance Minister for Fiscal Affairs, Samora Wolokolie, has been booed and jeered at a school graduation program. The school was hosting its annual graduation program recently, an event eagerly anticipated by students, parents, and teachers alike. Little did they know that this particular graduation ceremony would take an unexpected turn, thanks to the presence of Deputy Finance Minister Samora Wolokollie.

Samora Wolokollie is known to be one of the wealthiest officials in the government, often seen in luxurious suits. However, what he lacked was an understanding of appropriate behavior and the line between politics and public events.

As the guest speaker for the graduation program, Wolokollie was given the opportunity to inspire and motivate the young graduates. However, instead of delivering an uplifting speech focused on their achievements, he chose to use the platform to promote President George Weah and his administration.

As Wolokollie took the podium, the audience anticipated an engaging speech filled with words of wisdom and encouragement. However, to their dismay, he began to talk about the accomplishments of President Weah, praising his leadership and policies. Gradually, his speech transformed from an address to the graduates to a thinly veiled campaign rally.

The attendees, comprising students, parents, and teachers, were taken aback by Wolokollie’s audacity to use a graduation ceremony as a political platform. The initial silence quickly turned into murmurs of discontent, and within moments, boos and jeers filled the air. The crowd’s frustration grew, and they felt insulted and disrespected by the Deputy Finance Minister’s blatant attempt to sway their opinions.

With each passing second, the atmosphere became more chaotic. Some parents and teachers got angry. The students, who had worked tirelessly to reach this milestone, also expressed their displeasure. They had hoped for a memorable farewell and inspiring words to guide them into the next phase of their lives, but instead, they were witnessing a political spectacle.

The graduation program, once a celebration of success and hard work, descended into disarray. The organizers, realizing the gravity of the situation, quickly intervened. They tried to calm the agitated audience and restore order to the event.

The incident became a topic of discussion throughout the city, with citizens expressing their disappointment and frustration. The actions of the Deputy Finance Minister were widely condemned, as they were seen as a misuse of power and an affront to the principles of democracy.

In the days that followed, the event served as a wake-up call for both the government and its officials. It emphasized the importance of maintaining a clear distinction between political campaigning and public events, especially those meant to celebrate the achievements of young individuals.

As for Samora Wolokollie, he faced severe criticism and backlash from the public, with social media lighting up. The incident highlighted the need for government officials to prioritize serving the people over personal agendas. It served as a reminder that public representatives should always be mindful of their roles and responsibilities and act in the best interest of the citizens they serve. In the end, the graduation program continued, albeit with a somber atmosphere.
