LIBERIA: GRAND BASSA RESIDENTS REQUEST $12,500 HELD BY REP. ALFRED FLOMO FOR LOCAL DEVELOPMENT

GRAND BASSA COUNTY, LIBERIA – Residents of Grand Bassa County have formally reached out to Representative Alfred H. Flomo, requesting the release of $12,500 USD previously withdrawn from the Community account for safekeeping under his mandate. The appeal, detailed in a letter dated January 23, 2026, was addressed to Hon. Flomo by the Executive Committee of District 3B & C.

In the letter, the Executive Committee, led by Chairman Kennedy King, acknowledged that the funds had been entrusted to Representative Flomo through CFMB J. Max Kpeleh. The committee emphasized that the amount is now urgently needed for community development projects and requested the lawmaker’s intervention to facilitate its timely return.

“We write to acknowledge that the amount of Twelve thousand and five hundred United States Dollars (US$12,500.00) that was withdrawn from the Community account by your mandate… is now in need for a development purpose,” the letter states, underlining the pressing requirement for the funds.

The letter also expressed gratitude to Representative Flomo for his initial safekeeping of the community resources and highlighted the expectation that the money will now contribute to projects beneficial to local residents.

Copies of the correspondence were sent to key stakeholders, including Madam Weedor H. Gray, Tech Manager of the Community Forest under the FDA, Senator Gbezohngar M. Finley, Representative Thomas A. Gosuah of Electoral District 5, Superintendent Kardya Joli, and Commissioner Roland Tiah of District 3C. The widespread circulation underscores the collective support of the community elders and officials for the request.

By formally notifying the lawmaker, the community aims to ensure that public funds previously entrusted for developmental purposes are efficiently channeled back into projects that can improve living conditions and infrastructure in the county.

The Executive Committee also highlighted the role of the community elders in advocating for transparency and proper utilization of funds, reiterating that the request is part of broader efforts to ensure accountability and progress.

Representative Flomo has historically played a key role in managing community funds and projects, and his cooperation is seen as crucial in implementing sustainable development initiatives across District 3B & C.

Local leaders emphasized that the fund’s utilization would prioritize infrastructure, education, and healthcare interventions, which remain critical needs in the county.

The letter’s outreach to multiple government officials also signals a collaborative approach to community-driven development, ensuring that all relevant authorities are aware and can support the prompt release of the funds.

By involving the FDA and other stakeholders, the community seeks to balance oversight with practical deployment of the money for initiatives that directly benefit residents, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

The action by the Executive Committee reflects a broader trend across Liberia, where local authorities are increasingly requesting accountability for public and communal funds, aiming to maximize impact on the ground.

Analysts say that clear communication like this strengthens public confidence in governance and highlights the importance of bridging the gap between elected officials and community needs.

The community’s letter to Representative Flomo represents a model of participatory governance, where citizens actively engage with their leaders to secure resources for local development.

As Grand Bassa County awaits a response, the community hopes that the $12,500 will soon be mobilized for projects that enhance livelihoods, infrastructure, and access to essential services, thereby reflecting the intent behind the original deposit for communal benefit.

The situation underscores the importance of transparent fund management in Liberia, ensuring that entrusted amounts are used as intended for the advancement of local communities.
