LIBERIA NATIONAL POLICE ENGAGES GHANA POLICE SERVICE OVER MOB KILLING OF LIBERIAN IN ACCRA

MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police has confirmed that it is in formal communication with the Ghana Police Service following the tragic mob killing of 26 year old Liberian national Austin Tengeeh in Accra, Ghana. The incident, which occurred in the Sakumono District, has sparked concern among Liberians at home and abroad.

In a press release issued in Monrovia on March 3, 2026, the LNP disclosed that preliminary information from Ghanaian authorities indicates the incident took place at an apartment complex in Lashibi, near Sakumono. According to official briefings, Tengeeh was at the premises when a dispute reportedly broke out under circumstances that are still being investigated.

The LNP said information provided to it suggests that during the disturbance, an alarm was raised, drawing members of the public to the scene. The situation quickly escalated into mob violence, culminating in a brutal assault on the young Liberian.

Ghanaian police reportedly responded to the scene and transported Tengeeh to the Sakumono Community Hospital. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has since been deposited at the Lashibi Funeral Home pending autopsy and other forensic examinations as part of the ongoing investigation.

Liberian authorities further disclosed that the Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the incident. The individuals appeared before a Ghanaian court on March 2, 2026, as investigations continue.

Beyond police to police engagement, the LNP revealed that it has also formally contacted the Embassy of Ghana in Monrovia. According to the release, Liberian authorities are maintaining active diplomatic communication to receive regular updates on both the investigative and judicial processes. The Ghana Police Service has reportedly assured Liberia that due process is being observed.

The LNP expressed deep sympathy to the family of Austin Tengeeh and the wider Liberian community affected by the tragedy. It emphasized its strong and unequivocal opposition to mob violence and all forms of extrajudicial action, stressing that allegations of wrongdoing must be addressed strictly through lawful and competent judicial channels.

At the same time, the police called on the public to remain calm and law abiding, urging citizens to avoid speculation or inflammatory commentary that could undermine ongoing investigations or strain diplomatic ties.
