LIBERIA: PRES. BOAKAI SIGNS EXECUTIVE ORDERS TO ENSURE RICE AFFORDABILITY AND AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITY

Date:

MONROVIA – In a major step towards achieving food sufficiency and ensuring the affordability of rice, Liberia’s staple food, President President Joseph N. Boakai has signed two significant executive orders.

The first executive order, Executive Order No. 125, suspends the importation tariff on rice. This bold move aims to reduce the cost of rice and make it more accessible to the Liberian people. Recognizing the importance of rice as a staple food in Liberia, the President is committed to easing the burden on citizens by ensuring that this essential food item remains affordable.

Building upon this commitment, the President has also signed Executive Order No. 126 on Assets Recovery. This executive order focuses on recovering assets and combating corruption to strengthen the economy and promote long-term agricultural productivity. By addressing issues such as corruption and mismanagement, the President aims to create a conducive environment for the agricultural sector to thrive.

The President’s ARREST Agenda, which stands for “Agricultural Revitalization for Rice Sufficiency and Transformation,” places a strong emphasis on achieving food sufficiency through sustainable agricultural practices. With the suspension of importation tariffs on rice, the government aims to encourage local rice production and reduce dependency on imports. This move not only ensures the availability of rice but also supports local farmers and boosts the country’s agricultural sector.

The signing of these executive orders reflects the government’s commitment to prioritize the welfare of the Liberian people. By taking proactive measures to ensure the affordability of rice and promote long-term agricultural productivity, the President is working towards a brighter and more self-sufficient future for Liberia.
