MONROVIA – The House of Representatives has approved the fiscal year 2024 National Budget totaling US$738,859,827. This marks the first time members of the House voted by roll call to approve the budget, following a rigorous debate on Thursday, April 25, 2024.
The budget, initially submitted at US$692,408,827, saw an increase of US$46,451,000.00. This increment benefited several sectors, including transparency and accountability, security and rule of law, health, education, and agriculture. The debate was preceded by a report from the Joint Ways, Means and Finance and Public Accounts Committee of the House and the Liberian Senate.
In a statement issued by the House Press Bureau, House Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa commended the cooperation and collaboration of several line ministries and agencies of government during the revenue and expenditure hearings. He also praised the joint Legislative Committee for thoroughly scrutinizing the budget.
