MONROVIA – The Liberty Party on Saturday, November 8, 2025, strongly rejected what it described as “baseless and inflammatory” claims made by members of the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) against Montserrado County Senator Abe Darius Dillon. In a detailed statement, the party condemned accusations linking Senator Dillon to the death of the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson or alleging that his criticisms of Labor Minister Cooper Kruah were motivated by tribal bias. “These accusations are dangerous, slanderous, and defamatory,” the Liberty Party said, characterizing them as deliberate attempts to distract Senator Dillon from his advocacy for justice, accountability, and the protection of Liberian workers.
The party emphasized that medical authorities and family members have confirmed that Senator Johnson died of natural causes, and it described as “deeply regrettable” the politicization of his passing. “To weaponize the death of a respected statesman for political gain is a grave dishonor to his legacy,” the statement read, highlighting the party’s condemnation of attempts to exploit Johnson’s death for political purposes.
The Liberty Party reaffirmed Senator Dillon’s commitment to advancing justice and ending impunity, specifically through his longstanding call for the establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Court. The statement emphasized that Dillon’s advocacy is intended to promote national accountability and is not directed at any individual or ethnic group.
Addressing claims related to Labor Minister Cooper Kruah, the party stressed that Senator Dillon’s criticisms are policy-based and aimed at promoting transparency and accountability within the Ministry of Labor. “Minister Kruah, like any public servant, is subject to scrutiny,” the statement said. “To misconstrue such scrutiny as tribal prejudice is a terrible injustice against the Liberian people.”
The Liberty Party expressed concern that debates over labor policy are being replaced by personal attacks and tribal rhetoric, warning that such narratives could threaten national unity. The statement urged MDR leaders and the Ministry of Labor to focus on improving the welfare of Liberian workers rather than engaging in divisive political narratives.
Senator Dillon also took to social media to address the controversy, posting on his Facebook page that the allegations against him are escalating in Nimba County. “Look! This nonsense being rapidly spread against me in Nimba County by and amongst some MDR folks from Nimba County must stop! This is indeed becoming life-threatening; I won’t take it lightly going forward!!” he wrote.
He questioned how his legislative oversight and representation could be portrayed as targeting or being anti-Nimba, noting his efforts to hold the Ministry of Labor accountable. “So, when I voted ‘YES’ to confirm the current Minister of Labor, was he BASSA? Or he only turned NIMBAIAN after my vote and when I started to hold him accountable on the rampant issuance of Work Permits?” Dillon asked.
Senator Dillon stressed that his interventions in the labor market are designed to ensure that qualified Liberians are provided job opportunities. “No amount of real or subtle threats will dissuade me from speaking up on this matter, and no amount of paid press releases from ‘civil society groups’ can deter me from fighting to ensure that qualified Liberians be provided job opportunities against the sales and rampant issuance of ‘Work Permits’ in our Labor/job market!!” he said.
The senator affirmed that his work is grounded in the principles of legislative oversight, accountability, and public service. “The Minister will be made to account … it is called OVERSIGHT!” Dillon added, reinforcing his stance that holding public officials accountable is a core legislative function and not a matter of personal or tribal bias.
The Liberty Party concluded by reiterating its full support for Senator Dillon’s efforts, stating, “The Liberty Party stands firmly with Senator Dillon as he continues to champion justice, transparency, and the rights of Liberians. No amount of slander will deter him from serving the people with integrity and courage.” The statement underscores the party’s commitment to defending its lawmakers against what it views as politically motivated attacks while promoting accountability and fairness in governance.
