MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Liberty Party (LP) is preparing to host its long-awaited national convention, marking a decisive moment in the party’s efforts to heal internal divisions that have plagued it for almost four years. The gathering, which is scheduled to take place in February 2025, will bring together 120 delegates from across Liberia, as the party aims to restore unity and rebuild trust among its members.
Senator Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence, the LP’s Political Leader, addressed the media in a press conference in Congo Town, underscoring the significance of this convention as a key step toward reconciliation. Karngar-Lawrence emphasized that the event would serve as a platform for dialogue and collaboration, allowing the party to address its internal issues and strengthen its foundation. “This is the moment when we come together to heal and renew our commitment to the people of Liberia,” she said. “It is not just about resolving disputes, but about shaping a new direction for the future of our party.”
The Liberty Party has faced significant internal strife in recent years, resulting in a fractured leadership and weakened position within Liberia’s political landscape. As the party’s members come together for this convention, it is hoped that key issues surrounding leadership and policy direction will be addressed, ultimately repositioning the LP as a strong political force.
Karngar-Lawrence highlighted the importance of the upcoming gathering in restoring party unity. She expressed confidence that this event would help solidify the LP’s future path, emphasizing the need for a more united and focused approach to national political engagement. “This convention is a crucial turning point for us,” she added. “It is a chance to come together, reaffirm our values, and lay the groundwork for a stronger, more united party.”
The convention is expected to address pressing issues such as leadership restructuring, developing a clear policy framework, and discussing strategies for upcoming political battles. A special closing ceremony is set for February 8, 2025, at the party’s newly acquired headquarters, a location once home to the People’s Liberation Party.
