LNBA ANNOUNCES 2025 ANNUAL CONVENTION IN NIMBA COUNTY, VAT LAW TO DOMINATE CLE SESSIONS

MONROVIA – The Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) has announced that its 2025 Annual Convention will be held in Ganta City, Nimba County, from December 4 to 7, 2025. The convention will take place at the Wuo Garbe Tarppia Intellectual Hall of the Peace Empire Hotel and is expected to draw legal practitioners from across the country for four days of professional engagement, networking, and capacity building.

According to the LNBA, the official opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., under the theme “Strengthening the Rule of Law: The Lawyer’s Role in Restoring Public Trust.” The proceedings will be led by LNBA National President Cllr. Bornor M. Varmah, who is expected to highlight the Bar’s focus on justice delivery, integrity in the legal system, and renewed public confidence in the judiciary.

As part of the convention, the LNBA will recognize and honor high-performing judges who have disposed of significant numbers of cases during 2025. According to the Association, the recognition is intended to boost morale within the judiciary and encourage improved efficiency in court operations.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Cllr. Mark M. Marvay, Managing Partner at Beyond Law Chambers and a former member of the LNBA National Executive Council. The LNBA says Cllr. Marvay’s extensive experience and leadership in the legal community make him an ideal voice to address the challenges and opportunities facing the rule of law in Liberia.

Beyond the formal sessions, the convention will feature social and fraternal events geared toward fostering unity and solidarity among members of the Bar. A parade and sports activities have been scheduled for Saturday, December 6.

A major highlight of the annual gathering will be the mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program, through which Counsellors and Attorneys-At-Law will acquire the ten CLE credit hours required for the 2025 professional year. This year’s CLE is expected to be particularly significant as it focuses on the newly enacted Value Added Tax (VAT) law, which will replace the Goods and Services Tax (GST) beginning in 2025.

The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) legal team will lead two major presentations: an introduction to the Value Added Tax Law of 2024 and procedures for the implementation of the Act amending Chapter 10 of the Revenue Code. Another presentation will address updated Rules of Court and recommendations from a committee established by the Supreme Court.

The LNBA also announced the completion of the ground floor of its National Headquarters project along the Roberts International Airport Highway. The leadership says a full progress report on the project will be presented to members during the convention. The Association expressed appreciation to its members and supporters who have contributed toward the ongoing development of the headquarters.

The LNBA emphasized that the annual convention remains the Association’s highest decision-making body and plays a critical role in shaping national legal discourse each year. Members are encouraged to attend and participate in what the leadership described as a professional, reflective, and forward-looking national event.
