LNP ARRESTS FUGITIVE SUSPECT IN CAPITOL BUILDING ARSON CASE

MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has confirmed the arrest of Amos K. Koffa, a key suspect previously charged in absentia in connection with the December 18, 2024, Capitol Building arson attack.

According to a police press release issued on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, signed by DCP Cecelia G. Clarke, Spokesperson of the LNP, Koffa was apprehended on September 1, 2025, at the Loguatuo Border following a coordinated operation led by joint security forces.

Koffa, who once served as Supervisor of the Maintenance Department at the Capitol Building, had fled Liberia on April 6, 2025, under the alias “Roland King.” His escape came after mounting allegations linking him to the arson incident, in which other suspects allegedly assisted him.

The LNP disclosed that intelligence gathered through collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and INTERPOL revealed that Koffa had relocated to Ghana. He was subsequently placed on the international watch list. In July 2025, he narrowly evaded capture during a joint regional security operation.

Police authorities said that persistent surveillance and coordinated efforts with regional partners eventually led to his arrest at Liberia’s border with Côte d’Ivoire. Koffa is now in police custody and undergoing investigation at the LNP Headquarters in Monrovia.

The police have assured the public that the suspect will be forwarded to court at the appropriate time to face formal legal proceedings.

“The Liberia National Police reaffirms its commitment to justice and will ensure that all individuals implicated in this case are held accountable under the law,” the statement emphasized.

The Capitol Building arson case, which rocked the nation’s political landscape late last year, remains one of the most high-profile criminal investigations in recent times. The LNP says further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
