MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Administration of the Liberia National Police (LNP) has dismissed Patrolman Jerome S. Togba with immediate effect for alleged police brutality. This action violates the Administrative Instructions on Discipline and Professional Standards, specifically Section 6.1.1 (Criminal Misconduct), Section 6.1.3 (Abuse of Power and Authority), and Section 6.1.14 (Assault).
According to a police press release issued today, the incident occurred on May 11, 2024, when Jerome S. Tokpah got into a fight with his neighbor, Eric Tarr. During the altercation, Tokpah allegedly wounded Courage Tarr, Eric Tarr’s daughter, on her forehead with a machete, commonly known in Liberia as a Whipper.
A preliminary police investigation revealed that Tokpah and Eric Tarr had been involved in a land dispute for over a year.
As a result of the investigation, Jerome S. Tokpah has been charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder and Aggravated Assault, in violation of Chapter 10, Section 10.1, and Chapter 14, Section 14.20 of the revised penal code of the Republic of Liberia. Tokpah has been forwarded to court for prosecution.
