MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has confirmed that a civilian was injured on the evening of August 31, 2025, after an off-duty officer discharged a firearm at the Iron Gate checkpoint in Brewerville.

According to a police press release issued Monday, September 1, 2025, and signed by DCP Cecelia G. Kromah, Class 45, ID #5766, assigned to the Kpaykor Police Station in Brewerville.

“At the time of the incident, Sergeant Kromah was off duty,” the release stated. “Preliminary findings indicate that the weapon used was not his official service arm, but is registered to another officer, Inspector Monica J. Sesay, ID #3603, from the Emergency Response Unit (ERU).”

The victim, identified as Hassan Carter, was immediately transported to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. Sergeant Kromah is now in police custody while a full investigation into the matter is underway.
