MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has forwarded suspect Lassannah Kromah, commonly known as “LASO,” to court on multiple criminal charges including armed robbery, criminal conspiracy, criminal facilitation, aiding consummation of crime, theft of property, and fraud.
The police action follows Kromah’s arrest on October 17, 2025, during a major anti-robbery operation in Montserrado County. According to the LNP, the operation led to the recovery of seventeen stolen motorbikes from his residence, believed to have been obtained through a network of organized criminal activity targeting commercial motorcyclists.
Police investigators disclosed that LASO allegedly purchased stolen motorbikes from suspected thieves, issued counterfeit receipts, and sold them to unsuspecting buyers under the pretense of operating a legitimate business. The elaborate scheme reportedly defrauded several victims across Montserrado and surrounding areas, with some buyers only discovering the fraud after police traced their motorbikes to theft reports.
Authorities said the discovery of the stolen bikes was the result of weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering by the LNP’s Criminal Investigation Division. Investigators are continuing to identify other individuals connected to the syndicate, including those who supplied LASO with the stolen vehicles.
In a statement, the Liberia National Police urged all victims of motorbike theft to come forward with valid ownership documents to help reclaim their property. Police further assured the public that due process will be observed as the suspect faces trial for the alleged crimes.
The LNP also used the occasion to warn citizens against purchasing stolen items, stressing that such actions constitute a violation of the law and could lead to arrest and prosecution. “Anyone found buying or possessing stolen property will be held liable under Liberian law,” the statement emphasized.
Meanwhile, police sources revealed that the ongoing investigation aims to dismantle a broader network of organized theft operations in Montserrado County. Several individuals are reportedly under surveillance as law enforcement intensifies efforts to curb the rising incidents of motorbike-related crimes in the capital.
The arrest and subsequent court appearance of LASO come amid increased public concern over a surge in motorbike theft and violent robberies in Monrovia and its suburbs. The LNP has in recent months launched targeted operations aimed at reclaiming stolen property and bringing perpetrators to justice.
