MARTIN KOLLIE UNVEILS LIBERIA’S MOST MODERN BUS STOP IN KLAY DISTRICT, INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY, COMFORT, AND ACCESSIBILITY

BOMI COUNTY – Liberia’s infrastructure landscape in Bomi County just received a significant boost with the completion and dedication of a state-of-the-art, multipurpose bus stop in Klay District, spearheaded by activist and philanthropist Martin K. N. Kollie. The facility is not just a transit point; it represents a leap toward modern, accessible, and technology-driven public amenities in Liberia.

This modern bus stop is designed not only to provide shelter for commuters but also to serve as a digital and social access point for residents, travelers, and local businesses. By integrating technology, renewable energy, and inclusive infrastructure, the project aligns with national development goals while addressing community needs.

At the heart of the facility is the StarLink high-speed internet system, bringing reliable broadband connectivity to the area. Complementing this is a Digital Satellite Television (DSTV) system, providing news, educational content, sports, documentaries, and entertainment to the public. “If some think they deserve access to these services, the people too deserve equal access,” Kollie emphasized, highlighting his commitment to bridging the digital divide for youth, students, and commuters.

To ensure sustainability and safety, the project incorporates solar panel lights and lighting poles, reducing reliance on fossil fuels while guaranteeing visibility and security during nighttime hours. The bus stop is also connected to the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) supply, ensuring consistent energy for digital systems and potential future expansions.

Accessibility and inclusiveness are core to the design. The bus stop features a ramp (RAM) for persons with disabilities, ensuring that people with mobility challenges can safely and comfortably access the facility without barriers. Kollie noted, “We are adding dignity, respect, and comfort to the lives of our people across Liberia.”

The structure also features well-designed seating and modern chairs, providing comfort and durability for daily users. The seating encourages order, safety, and convenience while enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the facility, setting a new standard for public infrastructure in Liberia.

The bus stop’s location along a major transit route from Montserrado to Sierra Leone, Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu ensures that thousands of commuters benefit daily. The facility not only offers a resting point but also helps stimulate the local economy by increasing foot traffic for nearby vendors and businesses.

Kollie stressed that this project demonstrates active civic engagement and responsibility, complementing the government’s efforts to improve national roads and bridges under the Ministry of Public Works. While the ministry spearheads corridors, urban streets, and rural highways across multiple counties, the Klay bus stop adds a layer of traveler comfort, accessibility, and technological empowerment along the Bomi transit route.

The bus stop’s completion coincides with Liberia’s dry season, allowing travelers to safely use the facility while on long-distance journeys. Kollie encourages visitors to make a brief stop at Klay, both as a rest point and as an opportunity to experience the multipurpose amenities firsthand.

Martin Kollie concluded by reiterating his commitment to ongoing improvements. “We are not finished with the bus stop yet,” he said. With further enhancements planned, the Klay facility is poised to become a benchmark for transit infrastructure nationwide, marrying convenience, technology, and inclusivity in ways rarely seen in Liberia.
