MARYLAND CO., LIBERIA – The District Development Council (DCC) concluded a day-long meeting with LIBENERGY Management, demanding the removal of installed meters due to high payment costs. The meeting, held at Pleebo City Hall over the weekend, was attended by local government officials, zone heads, LIBENERGY authorities, Pleebo City Mayor Larry G. Geekor, and Maryland County Superintendent Hon. Henry Cole.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Kanta Nugba, Secretary of the Council, emphasized that the $130 USD fee for meter installation is prohibitively expensive for citizens. He called on LIBENERGY Management to consider reducing the cost to make electricity more accessible to all residents. “The high installation fee imposed by LIBENERGY is causing serious problems. It means that less fortunate people cannot afford electricity in their homes,” he stated.
Representing District#2 Representative’s office, Coordinator Mr. Standford Neufville highlighted that the Maryland County legislative caucus is concerned about the prepaid meters. He mentioned that Hon. Anthony Williams has sent a written communication to LIBENERGY, requesting a halt to the ongoing meter installation process until further notice.
In separate remarks, Pleebo City Mayor Hon. Larry G. Geekor stated that his office has repeatedly urged LIBENERGY Management to address citizens’ concerns by reducing the charges.
Meanwhile, local authorities led by Supt. Henry Cole have immediately suspended the meter installation process across Pleebo District due to the high costs imposed on citizens. This decision comes amidst growing discontent over the affordability of electricity for residents in Maryland County.
