MLB CHAIRMAN ALEX JONES APPLAUDS PRES. BOAKAI’S SUSPENSION OF LDEA OFFICIALS

Date:

MONROVIA – Alex ChuChu Jones, Chairman of the Movement to Make Better (MLB), has commended President Joseph Boakai for his decisive action in suspending the Director General and two Deputies at the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) without pay, pending an investigation into recent misconduct at the agency’s headquarters.

In a statement on Tuesday, June 4, 2023, Mr. Jones wrote, “I support the President’s decision today! I applaud President Joseph Boakai for his decision to suspend several directors at the LDEA without pay and launch an investigation. As always, we will support our president whenever he shows good leadership, and we will criticize him whenever he does not. This decision was a brilliant one today, a little too late, but we still appreciative and support his decision. It’s better late than never.”

President Boakai’s actions follow the disorder and chaos that erupted at the LDEA on June 3, 2024, which he described as “unacceptable” and a threat to public peace and the government’s fight against illicit drugs. The suspended officials include Mr. Abraham S. Kromah, Director General, Mr. Gbawou Kowou, Deputy Director General for Administration, and Mr. Hassan Fadiga, Deputy Director General for Operations.

To ensure continuity during the investigation, the President appointed Mr. Christopher Peters as Officer in Charge (OIC) of the LDEA, citing Peters’ extensive training and commendable reputation.

Mr. Jones also called on the President to extend similar measures to Mrs. Mcdella Cooper and Mr. Alioune Kebe, urging their suspension without pay from their government posts until their personal matters are resolved.

“Thank you, Mr. President,” Jones concluded, reinforcing his support for the President’s commitment to accountability and effective governance within the LDEA.
