NEW HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING BRINGS HOPE TO BARRIKEN TOWN

MARYLAND CO., LIBERIA — Over 150 students and 13 trained teachers are set to move into a newly constructed high school in Barriken Town. The school, built by ADDRA in partnership with the World Bank and the Liberian government under President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, marks a significant development for the community.

Named “Barriken High School,” the facility features three classrooms, a library, and three offices. It is the first modern high school in the area, bringing joy to local residents.

Principal Mathew W. Kribo Sr. expressed gratitude to the World Bank, ADDRA, and the government for their support. He noted that the new school, valued at millions of dollars, will ease the burden on students who previously had to travel for higher education.

“For decades, we only had elementary and junior high levels in our town. This project began under former President George M. Weah and was completed during President Boakai’s administration,” Kribo said.

Commissioner Hon. Dossen praised the initiative, highlighting its potential to enhance educational standards in the region. However, he called for additional support to provide furniture for the school.

“The new building lacks chairs and desks for students. The government needs to act quickly to ensure quality learning,” Dossen urged.

As students prepare to begin classes in the new facility, the community looks forward to improved educational opportunities and a brighter future.
