MONROVIA – The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) experienced a bustling day of activity on Friday, January 24, 2025, as Director-General Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan led a team of employees to offload a 40-foot container filled with advanced ICT equipment and essential tools.
The valuable items, donated by the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), are estimated to be worth over $275,000. The donation aims to strengthen the institute’s capacity to respond effectively to public health emergencies.
Following the offloading of the 40-foot container, Smart News Liberia contacted Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan via mobile phone to gather his thoughts on the donation. He expressed gratitude and emphasized the importance of the equipment in bolstering the operations of NPHIL’s Public Health Emergency Operations Center (PHEOC). “These tools will play a crucial role in enhancing our capacity to detect, respond to, and manage public health crises nationwide,” Dr. Nyan stated.
The donation underscores Africa CDC’s unwavering support for Liberia’s public health infrastructure, which has faced considerable challenges in recent years. Dr. Nyan applauded the partnership with Africa CDC and reiterated NPHIL’s commitment to leveraging the equipment to strengthen the country’s emergency preparedness and response systems.
Speaking further to Smart News Liberia, Dr. Nyan noted that the unloading process was physically demanding but symbolized a significant step forward in enhancing NPHIL’s technological and operational capabilities. He added, “The Public Health Emergency Operations Center, as the primary beneficiary of this equipment, is expected to experience substantial improvements in its ability to coordinate responses to outbreaks and other health emergencies.”
“This donation further cements Africa CDC’s role as a critical partner in Liberia’s health sector, particularly in providing vital resources to address public health challenges,” Dr. Nyan concluded.
