NYAN SAYS SUP WILL PROTEST PRESIDENT BOAKAI’S UNITY PARTY HOMECOMING OVER HARDSHIP

MONROVIA – The Vanguard Student Unification Party (SUP) is vowing to confront the Unity Party’s homecoming celebration on Saturday, December 6, 2025, with the group’s Propaganda Chairman, Poly Emmanuel Nyan, declaring that rising hardship and government failures have left Liberians no choice but to demand accountability. In a strongly worded statement issued Friday, December 5, Nyan said the movement will stage a petitioning action at the headquarters of the ruling party, accusing the Boakai administration of abandoning its constitutional responsibilities.

“History has never bowed to the timid. It has always been shaped by men and women of courage, those who rise when a nation is sinking,” Nyan said, framing SUP’s protest as a patriotic duty rather than a political confrontation. He announced that SUP will “stand firmly at the gates of the governing Unity Party” to present grievances against what he described as worsening living conditions, a collapsing educational sector, and the government’s refusal to create meaningful jobs as mandated under Articles 13, 15, and 17 of the 1986 Constitution.

The student leader criticized the administration for what he called misplaced priorities, insisting that while ordinary Liberians battle hunger, unemployment, and deteriorating public services, the government is spending millions of dollars on a homecoming ceremony that “offers no value, no relief, and absolutely no progress to the suffering masses.” He emphasized that children remain out of school due to the government’s failure to adequately support the education system, and hospitals are severely short of essential drugs.

“Liberians cannot continue sleeping on empty stomachs. Our children cannot remain outside the classroom. Our hospitals cannot be drained of essential drugs while this government squanders millions on a homecoming festivity,” Nyan said. He stressed that SUP is committed to peace but warned that any disorder arising during the demonstration would be the responsibility of the Unity Party and its leadership.

According to Nyan, the movement’s actions are justified. “Our struggle is righteous. Our demands are legitimate. And we will not apologize for standing up in defense of the Liberian people,” he declared. He urged all Liberians feeling the pressure of the current economic situation to join the protest, encouraging citizens to “reach out to our inbox for instructions on tomorrow’s assembling point.”

In a follow-up statement, Nyan questioned what President Boakai’s administration has accomplished in nearly two years, arguing that daily living conditions have worsened instead of improving. “In two years’ time, what has the Unity Party done for the Liberian people? Liberia is the number six angry country in the world. Everybody in Liberia is now angry,” he said, linking the nation’s frustration to rising poverty and the cost of living.

SUP vowed to openly challenge the government, including state security forces and top political leaders. “Tomorrow we will assemble at the headquarters of the Unity Party to petition the Liberian government. It is our right to do so. We believe that the state is in free-fall. Economic destitution and political immoralities have befallen under Boakai’s leadership,” Nyan stated. He said the group intends to challenge the Liberia National Police, the President, the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, and all officials responsible for national governance.

The SUP spokesman further warned that students are prepared for any potential force used against them. “Let the Police get ready to shoot live bullets and to finish all of the tear gas on us. Our chests are opened to bullets and our backs are ready for batons,” he declared, while insisting that the students’ action will remain peaceful unless provoked. His comments have sparked public concern over whether Saturday’s demonstration may escalate into confrontation.
