MONROVIA – Matthew Nyanplu, a declared 2029 presidential hopeful, on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, criticized political leaders who he says exploit ethnic and religious affiliations for personal gain, specifically calling out Musa Bility for attempting to “play the tribal card.”
Nyanplu alleged that Bility is using Mandingo and Mandingo/Muslim-leaning voters as leverage to secure concessions for himself, describing the approach as a failed experiment reminiscent of past political maneuvers under the GV Kromah ALCOP. “We must reject tribal and sectarian politics. The Liberian people collectively are not a bargaining chip to advance any politician’s private interests,” Nyanplu said.
He urged Liberians of all ethnic and religious backgrounds to join political parties based on their ability to deliver meaningful structural and economic transformation for the nation. “That determination must have no religious or ethnic tone. We must focus on the issues! We must end politics motivated and clothed in greed!” Nyanplu concluded.
Musa Bility currently serves as Representative for District Seven in Nimba County and leads the newly founded Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) political party. Nyanplu’s comments come amid growing debates over identity politics and the need for issue-driven campaigns ahead of Liberia’s 2029 presidential elections.
