PRES. BOAKAI ATTENDS GHANA’S PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION, STRENGTHENS REGIONAL TIES

Date:

ACCRA, GHANA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai joined African leaders in Accra on January 7, 2025, to attend the inauguration ceremony of Ghana’s newly elected President John Dramani Mahama and and Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. The event, held at the iconic Black Star Square, marked a milestone in Ghanaian history and underscored the vitality of democratic governance on the African continent.

President Boakai, leading a high-level Liberian delegation, extended heartfelt congratulations to the Ghanaian people and their leadership on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia. He praised the smooth transition of power as a testament to Ghana’s commitment to democracy and good governance, expressing hope for continued progress and collaboration between the two nations.

The inauguration drew an impressive array of heads of state, dignitaries, and representatives from across Africa and beyond. The presence of such a diverse gathering highlighted Ghana’s standing as a beacon of stability and democratic values in the region. For Liberia, it was an opportunity to reaffirm its solidarity with a neighboring nation that has long been a pillar of regional cooperation and shared aspirations.

During his visit, President Boakai engaged with several of his counterparts, seizing the occasion to strengthen Liberia’s bilateral relations and regional partnerships. These discussions, though brief, were viewed as an essential step in promoting dialogue and cooperation on matters of mutual interest, including economic integration, security, and sustainable development within the subregion.

Liberia’s participation in the ceremony underscores the Boakai Administration’s commitment to fostering strong relationships with neighboring countries and advancing the broader objectives of the African Union and ECOWAS. The President’s presence in Ghana signaled a desire to deepen ties not only with Ghana but also with other nations represented at the event.

The visit also served as a platform to reaffirm Liberia’s role in supporting regional peace and stability. President Boakai emphasized the importance of collaboration among African nations in addressing shared challenges and seizing opportunities for growth and development. He lauded Ghana’s leadership for setting a positive example of governance and inclusivity, which he described as essential for the continent’s progress.

As President Boakai returns to Liberia, his administration remains focused on strengthening partnerships that foster regional integration and sustainable development. The trip to Ghana is seen as part of a broader strategy to position Liberia as an active participant in advancing collective goals across West Africa.
