Newly-elected Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu
The President of the Republic, Dr. George Manneh Weah has congratulated the newly-elected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his extraordinary return to power after his right-wing coalition won Tuesday’s polls.
The new bloc won the most seats in the Israeli Knesset, paving the way for Netanyahu’s comeback just a year after he was ousted in a parliamentary vote.
He previously served as prime minister from 1996 to 1999, and then again from 2009 to 2021. This makes him the person who’s served the longest in the position since the country gained independence in 1948.
President Weah has said he looks forward to continuing the bilateral relationship that both countries have shared over the years, which were given renewed dynamism during a visit of the Liberian Leader to the Middle Eastern nation in 2019.
Diplomatic ties between Liberia and Israel were re-established in 1983 after being severed in the 70s. Recently, following the visit of a high-level Liberian delegation, the Government of Liberia announced plans to open a trade mission in Israel which will eventually develop into an embassy.
