PRESIDENT BOAKAI EXPRESSES CONCERN FOR LIBERIANS IN FORMER REFUGEE CAMP BUDUBURAM, GHANA

Date:

MONROVIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. of the Republic of Liberia has expressed deep concern over the ongoing demolition exercise at the former Liberian refugee camp in Buduburam, Ghana. The President has received reports indicating that the demolition is being carried out by the Gomoa-Fetteh Traditional Council, who claim ownership of the land where the camp is located.

In response to this situation, President Boakai has called on the Ghanaian government, through the Liberian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to intervene and ensure the safety, protection, and humane treatment of the Liberians residing in the camp. The President has requested guidance from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and other relevant agencies on the appropriate steps to be taken in addressing this issue.

While awaiting further information and guidance, President Boakai has urged affected Liberians to remain calm. He reassures them that the government is fully assessing the situation and actively seeking an amicable solution. The President emphasizes the importance of maintaining a peaceful approach as efforts are made to address the concerns of those impacted by the demolition.

The plight of Liberians living in the former refugee camp in Buduburam is a matter of great importance to President Boakai. He remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of Liberians both within the country and abroad. The President’s call for intervention reflects his dedication to upholding the rights and welfare of Liberians, even beyond the borders of the nation.

The Liberian government will continue to engage with the Ghanaian authorities to find a resolution that respects the rights of the affected individuals and ensures their well-being. President Boakai’s concerns serve as a reminder of the importance of international cooperation and protection for refugees and displaced persons.

As developments unfold, the government of Liberia will remain actively engaged in addressing the situation and seeking a favorable outcome for the Liberians affected by the demolition in Buduburam.
