MONROVIA, LIBERIA – In a sudden and assertive move, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has issued a direct order for former government officials to return all assets belonging to the government without delay. The directive, announced on Friday, February 2, 2024, takes immediate effect and clearly demonstrates the president’s commitment to ethical governance.
To ensure the swift and thorough retrieval of government assets, President Boakai has established a team dedicated to this task, known as the Government Assets Retrieval Team (GART). This team will be responsible for identifying, locating, and recovering government assets within Liberia and abroad. Furthermore, GART will also be involved in investigating and working with law enforcement to prosecute individuals found responsible for the unlawful retention of government property.
President Boakai’s emphasis on integrity and accountability in public service is evident in this directive, and he expects all officials to adhere to the highest standards of commitment and patriotism. The President’s Press Secretary, Kula Bonah Nyei Fofana, confirmed the president’s commitment to upholding these principles in government service.
This bold move by President Boakai signals a strong stance against corruption and malpractice, ensuring that government assets are protected and preserved for the benefit of the Liberian people.
