PRESIDENT BOAKAI LAUNCHES ELECTRONIC GOVERNMENT PROCUREMENT SYSTEM TO ENHANCE TRANSPARENCY

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on Thursday, February 6, 2025, officially launched the Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) System, marking a significant step in Liberia’s efforts to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability in public procurement. The launch ceremony, held at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Oldest Congo Town, brought together high-ranking government officials, members of the National Legislature, financial institutions, international partners, and private sector representatives.

In his keynote address, President Boakai described the e-GP System as a major reform aimed at strengthening Liberia’s fight against corruption and modernizing procurement processes. He emphasized that the platform eliminates the need for physical visits to government agencies, allowing businesses to bid for government contracts online. He noted that corruption has long hindered the country’s development and that the new system is designed to close loopholes that enable misuse of public funds.

The e-GP System has already been introduced in six key government procuring entities and is expected to foster competition among businesses while improving efficiency and reducing opportunities for corrupt practices. President Boakai commended the enrollment of over 200 businesses in the system and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) and other integrity institutions to ensure the platform’s success.

He acknowledged the support of the World Bank and the African Development Bank in Liberia’s public procurement reform efforts. He urged all government procuring entities to fully adopt the system to maximize its impact.
