PRESIDENT BOAKAI PAYS TRIBUTE TO LATE U.S. PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – On January 6, 2025, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of Liberia visited the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia to sign the Book of Condolence for the late former President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 29, 2024. President Boakai expressed his sincere condolences on behalf of the Liberian government and people, offering his support to the Carter family and the American nation during this time of mourning.

In his tribute, President Boakai reflected on President Carter’s profound impact on global humanitarian efforts, particularly his commitment to human rights, democracy, and peace. He emphasized Carter’s contributions through the Carter Center, which has played a pivotal role in improving public health, facilitating conflict resolution, and promoting fair elections worldwide. Notably, Boakai praised Carter’s efforts in Liberia, highlighting how his dedication to peace and development positively influenced the country during difficult periods.

“President Carter was not just an esteemed leader of the United States; he was a tireless advocate for justice and human dignity on the global stage,” Boakai remarked. He further acknowledged Carter’s legacy of fostering progress, especially in Africa, where his campaigns against diseases like Guinea worm and his advocacy for better health care left a lasting impression on the continent’s most vulnerable communities.

As Liberia continues its journey toward strengthening democracy, President Boakai stressed the importance of Carter’s example as a model of leadership, integrity, and service to humanity. He pointed to Carter’s post-presidency humanitarian work as a source of inspiration for nations striving for peace and sustainable development.

The signing of the Book of Condolence at the U.S. Embassy provided an opportunity for Liberian officials and the public to join in honoring Carter’s legacy. President Boakai’s visit underscored the enduring historical relationship between Liberia and the United States, based on shared values and mutual respect.

Jimmy Carter, who served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, was widely admired for his humility, compassion, and lifelong dedication to global peace and health. His influence extended far beyond his presidential years, as he remained a prominent figure in humanitarian work.

In mourning his loss, President Boakai’s tribute is a testament to the deep admiration for Carter’s impact, which transcended national borders and will continue to inspire future generations in Liberia and across the world.
