PRESS UNION OF LIBERIA MOURNS THE PASSING OF FOUR ESTEEMED JOURNALISTS

MONROVIA – The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) expresses deep sorrow over the loss of four esteemed members within the month of February. The journalism community has been profoundly affected by this unfortunate sequence of events, marking a period of collective mourning as we bid farewell to Henry B. Flomo, Robertson Penneh, Steve Silibi of Montserrado and Patrick Wesseh of Margibi County.

Mr. Flomo was pronounced dead at the Ganta United Methodist Hospital in Ganta, Nimba County on Sunday, February 25, 2024, where he had gone to conduct a ten-day intensive workshop on Building Resources in Democracy, Governance, and Elections on behalf of the National Elections Commission (NEC). His remains have since been deposited at the Samuel Striker Funeral Parlor.

The late Mr. Henry Flomo served as the Communications Director of the NEC prior to his death. The deceased served the National Elections Commission over the past years diligently. Mr. Flomo also served as Assistant Secretary General of the Press Union of Liberia and President of the Sports Writers Association an axillary of the Union.

Furthermore, the Union is also sadden over the death of Journalist Pennoh  Robertson  of Bana FM. Robertson met his untimely death on Saturday, February 23, 2024 after he sustained a broken leg through a terrible motor accident while on his way home on a motorbike .

He died at the SD Cooper Hospital due to lack of attention and electricity at the hospital, Robertson was a full member of the Press Union of  Liberia and prior worked with the Voice of Grand Kru in Grand Kru County, before moving to Monrovia where he joined Bana FM up to his death. His remains are  currently deposited at the Capehart Funeral home in Caldwell.

At the same time, the Union further regret the death of a dedicated journalist in Patrick Wesseh from Margibi County. He died February 15, 2024 at the 14th Military Hospital in Margibi County after a brief illness

Journalist Wesseh diligently worked as a reporter and Acting News Director at Radio Kakata, Talkshow Host at Classic FM and reporter – KMTV. He also served as a Correspondent for, Bana FM and Super Bongese Radio in Bong County, respectively. Prior to his demise, he also served as founding member and president of Margibi Young Journalists Association, Member Margibi Journalist Association.

The book of condolence of Journalist Wesseh will be opened this  Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Classic FM in Margibi County at 11:00 am.

Meanwhile, the Press Union of Liberia is Devastated over the demise of Journalist  Steve Silibi at the Liberia Broadcasting System after an SOS call was made but to no avail.

Journalist Silibi died February 25, 2024 at his residence,  he has been the French announcer at the Liberia Broadcasting System with his committed dedication and tireless services.

The PUL profoundly laments the untimely loss of these accomplished journalists, Henry B. Flomo, Pennoh Robertson, Steve Silibi and Patrick Wesseh.

They demonstrated passionate commitment to the journalism  profession and a genuine desire to drive positive change for the greater good of the public.  Their absence leaves an irreplaceable void, especially during these times of challenge.

The PUL extends its heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues, friends, and well-wishers who share in the grief caused by this loss. We urge everyone to find strength in unity as we navigate through these periods of mourning together.

The Union  will soon announce the commencement of a shared book of condolence in honor of our departed colleagues, following consultations with their families and close associates.
