PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT DONATES US$150,000 IN GEAR TO LIBERIA

Date:

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD – In a strong display of solidarity and support, the Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department has donated 40 pieces of essential firefighting gear, including fire suits, helmets, and boots, valued at approximately $150,000 to the Government of Liberia. The presentation took place at the Shady Glen Fire Station #802, where local leaders and community members gathered to witness this generous contribution.

Originally, the donation was to be received by Liberia’s Vice President, Hon. Jeremiah K. Kounng Sr., who was unable to attend the ceremony due to unspecified reasons. In his absence, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Liberian Embassy in Washington, DC, Ambassador Isaac C. Yeah, accepted the equipment on behalf of the Government of Liberia.

The initiative was spearheaded by Prince George’s County Council Member for District 6, Wala Blegay, Esq., who emphasized the importance of providing Liberia’s first responders with the necessary protective gear to effectively serve and protect their communities. Fire Chief Tiffany Green presented the equipment, highlighting the collaborative spirit of the event.

Sebastian Teclar, president of the Liberian Community Association of the Washington, DC Metro Area, addressed attendees, alongside other dignitaries from Prince George’s County.

In her remarks, Council Member Blegay expressed her gratitude, stating, “Today, we witnessed an incredible moment of global partnership and community support. This contribution will provide Liberia’s first responders with the protective gear they need to serve and protect their communities.”

She further acknowledged the presence of local leaders, community members, and the Liberian Community Association, underscoring the unity and generosity on display. Blegay shared a personal connection to the cause, noting her father’s roots in Liberia and her heartfelt appreciation for the impact this donation will have in a nation that desperately needs these resources.

“Let’s continue to work together to uplift communities both locally and globally,” she added, thanking everyone involved in making the donation a reality.
