MONROVIA – The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has announced the opening of a book of condolence in honor of veteran journalist Frank Loboe, widely known as “Dog Pound,” following his death earlier this month.
In a press release dated January 22, 2026, the PUL said the book of condolence will be opened on Friday, January 23, 2026, at its headquarters on Warner Avenue, 9th Street, Sinkor. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. and is intended to allow colleagues, friends, and members of the public to pay tribute to the late journalist.
Frank Loboe passed away on January 10, 2026, at the age of 58 after a prolonged illness. The PUL described him as a prominent figure in Liberia’s media landscape whose work left a lasting impact on journalism in the country.
According to the Union, Loboe rendered professional services to several media institutions, including the Liberia Communications Network (LCN) and the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS). He was particularly known for his distinctive and engaging voice, which made him a household name through his radio and television analyses.
The PUL noted that beyond news analysis, Loboe earned nationwide recognition for his live sports commentary, which “captivated audiences across the country” and added a unique flavor to sports broadcasting in Liberia.
The Union further stated that Loboe was not only committed to journalism but also explored active politics during his lifetime, reflecting his broader interest in national affairs and public discourse.
“The Press Union of Liberia expresses deep sorrow over the loss of Loboe, a valued member of our community whose passion for storytelling and commitment to journalism will continue to inspire generations of Liberian media practitioners,” the press release said.
In honoring his life and contributions, Loboe’s family has announced a wake-keeping ceremony to be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at his residence on Coleman Avenue, between 12th and 13th Streets, near the Levi C. Williams School. The wake-keeping will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services for the late journalist will take place on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the S.T. Nagbe United Methodist Church on 13th Street in Sinkor, starting at 10:00 a.m., followed by his burial in Congo Town.
The Press Union of Liberia has encouraged journalists, media practitioners, and the general public to participate in the condolence signing ceremony as a mark of respect and solidarity in honoring the legacy of Frank “Dog Pound” Loboe.
