MONROVIA – A land dispute in Louisiana, District 1, Montserrado County, has sparked urgent calls for government intervention as residents petition the House of Representatives over forced evictions, violence, and intimidation.
A diverse crowd, including youth, women, and the elderly, assembled at the Capitol Building on Thursday, February 20, voicing grievances against an individual identified as Blama Wright. They accused him of illegally seizing large tracts of land across several communities, forcibly removing occupants, demolishing homes, and instigating a campaign of terror.
The petitioners claimed that Wright, leveraging his alleged government connections, has orchestrated a reign of fear by employing threats and physical force to displace families. They detailed accounts of violent clashes, assaults, and fatalities linked to the dispute, with many fleeing their homes and seeking refuge in surrounding areas to escape further attacks.
In a desperate plea to the House Committee on Claims and Petitions, chaired by Representative Prince Toles, affected residents recounted years of suffering and unrest. They pressed lawmakers to summon the Minister of Justice for a full-scale investigation and immediate intervention to halt the chaos.
Acknowledging the gravity of the crisis, Representative Toles assured the petitioners that their concerns would be raised before the full House for urgent deliberation. “Your voices have been heard, and we will ensure this matter receives serious legislative attention,” he affirmed.
Residents expressed frustration over legal inaction, alleging that Wright and his associates have continuously defied court orders while escalating their land seizures. They described the failure of the judicial system to resolve the dispute as a contributing factor to the ongoing unrest.
“The situation is spiraling out of control,” one distressed resident lamented, revealing that at least six people have lost their lives as a result of the violence. “We need the government to intervene now and restore peace before more lives are lost,” another urged.
With tensions rising and security deteriorating, the residents are calling for swift legislative measures to restore order, protect displaced families, and bring an end to the land crisis before it spirals further into chaos.
