MONROVIA – Criminal Court “B” at the Temple of Justice has sentenced Sam Wolobah to life imprisonment for the murder of Samuel Kollie, after a jury found him guilty of performing an unauthorized surgical procedure that resulted in the patient’s death.
The ruling, delivered on October 1, 2025, by presiding Judge Alphanso Wesseh, condemned Wolobah’s conduct as “premeditated and deliberate,” describing his makeshift medical setup as a “killing chamber” disguised as a clinic. The court ruled that Wolobah’s actions were not only unlawful but carried out with reckless disregard for human life.
According to court findings, Wolobah admitted during the proceedings that he was neither a certified medical doctor nor a surgeon, but rather an “apprentice medical doctor” who had picked up surgical techniques while assisting licensed professionals in the past. Despite lacking certification, registration, or licensing from the Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC), Wolobah went ahead with an appendectomy on March 18, 2025. The patient, Samuel Kollie, died a day later on March 19, 2025.
Wolobah pleaded not guilty when arraigned on August 18, 2025, but a fifteen-man jury, after hearing testimonies from five key witnesses including medical professionals and the victim’s relatives, unanimously convicted him.
The court concluded that Wolobah’s negligence and unlawful impersonation of a doctor directly caused the death of Kollie, emphasizing the dangers posed by unlicensed medical practices in Liberia.
Judge Wesseh, in handing down the sentence, emphasized that the ruling serves as a stern warning to others who might exploit vulnerable citizens by masquerading as health professionals without proper credentials. Wolobah will now spend the rest of his life behind bars for the crime.
