SEN. KONNEH COMMENDS PRES. BOAKAI FOR ESTABLISHING WAR AND ECONOMIC CRIMES COURT IN LIBERIA

Date:

MONROVIA – Senator Amara Konneh of Gbarpolu County has praised President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for signing Executive Order #131, establishing the office of a War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia. This move is aimed at bringing justice to the victims of the atrocities committed during Liberia’s protracted civil wars.

Senator Konneh, in a post on his official Facebook page, expressed his support for the allocation of $500,000 in the National Budget for the establishment of the court, as agreed upon during a consultative meeting on the budget. He described this development as a significant step towards accountability for the barbaric killing of innocent Liberians, including his own family members and the community where he grew up.

The Senator also hailed the leadership of the Legislature, particularly the Speaker and President Pro Tempore, for their role in advancing the War and Economic Crimes Court (WECC) Resolution. He emphasized that the establishment of the court is a victory for all who have advocated for justice and accountability in Liberia.

Senator Konneh’s statement reflects the widespread support for the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia, as a means to address the legacy of violence and bring closure to victims and their families.
