Margibi County Senator, Nathaniel McGill, has achieved a significant milestone in healthcare infrastructure development by securing US$600,000 in the 2024 National Budget for the reconstruction of Central Liberia’s sole referral health facility, the CH Rannie Hospital.
Senator McGill’s successful advocacy for the inclusion of CH Rannie Hospital in the budget began with an impassioned plea to Senate Pro-temp and Senator of Grand Bassa County, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, on April 24, 2024. In a communication, Senator McGill underscored the urgent need for funding for the hospital.
His efforts culminated in a positive outcome on April 30, 2024, when the Liberian Senate passed the 2024 National Budget with a specific allocation of US$600,000 earmarked for the reconstruction of CH Rannie Hospital. This achievement highlights Senator McGill’s unwavering commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring the delivery of quality healthcare services to those in need through effective lobbying and legislative influence.
Senator McGill had previously stated that he would not vote for the passing of the budget if the Senate did not consider his plea. However, during the April 30, 2024 session, he joined 26 other seated senators in unanimously voting to concur with the House of Representatives, thereby passing the legislative instrument. The budget is now forwarded to the President for approval.
Senator McGill’s successful advocacy marks a pivotal step towards enhancing healthcare delivery in Central Liberia and demonstrates the impact of effective legislative engagement in addressing critical community needs.
