MONROVIA – Nimba County Senator Samuel Kogar is at risk of arrest for allegedly failing to pay US$65,025 in temporary alimony to his wife, Mrs. Ramatta Yoada Kogar, as ordered by the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court in Monrovia.
The temporary alimony, intended to support a lower-earning spouse during divorce proceedings, was mandated by Judge George W. Smith. The judge instructed that the funds be deposited with the court sheriff no later than August 4, 2025. More than a month after the deadline, the payment reportedly remains unsettled.
The court order, signed by Clerk Victor G. Gailor and approved by Judge Smith on July 25, 2025, allows for legal enforcement measures, including possible arrest, if the obligated party is found to have willfully refused payment despite having the means to comply.
Senator Kogar has yet to confirm whether he has received the payment order from the court, leaving questions about his response to the matter. Legal experts say that failure to comply with court-ordered alimony can carry serious consequences, including detention until payment is made.
The unfolding situation adds pressure on the senator as the judiciary prepares to take necessary steps to enforce the court’s ruling and ensure compliance with the alimony order.
