LIBERIA – Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe has said that it is important for Finance minister Samuel D. Tweah to be brought before an investigative institution to address serious concerns about his alleged involvement in the financial scandal at the Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Service.
The Bomi Senator notes that the alleged corruption saga at the Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) has been a serious embarrassment to the country–the corruption saga has slower the census process with the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Mr. Samuel D. Tweah, who is the board chair of the census agency entangled in the corruption saga.
It’s embarrassing, the Bomi County Senator stated. He urged Minister Tweah to submit to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) for investigation.
Senator Snowe, appearing as a panelist on the Spoon Talk show recently, noted the corruption allegations surrounding the Finance Minister are grave, and as such, urged the Finance Minister to see reason and to submit to a LACC probe.
According to Snowe, the Minister, as chairman of the board of LISGIS, has since not called a press conference or issued a statement to address himself to the corruption saga.
Snows states that Tweah’s silence is very unfortunate; adding that the LISGIS corruption controversy is a grave national issue that would have the Senate intervened when the legislators shall have returned from their census break next week.
Liberian Youth activist, Martin Kollie and now former LISGIS deputy director for statistics and data processing, Alex G. Williams, are amongst the people accusing the Finance Minister of corruption at LISGIS.
Recently, the media assistant to Minister Samuel Tweah, Aloysius Howe received US$160,000 for an alleged public relations provided to LISGIS. It is not clear how the aide to the board chair of LISGIS would obtain such a contract, without violating the PFM law.
Edwin Snows believes by submitting to a probe, the Finance Minister would have time to clear his name.
