MONROVIA — A devastating road accident along the Gbarnga–Monrovia highway has claimed the lives of seven people, including a baby and the driver of a black taxi, according to initial reports from Margibi County. The tragic collision occurred earlier this afternoon between Thomas’s Farm and SKT, leaving the crash site strewn with wreckage and debris.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with severely damaged vehicles blocking the busy highway. According to reports, the accident happened when a taxi, reportedly attempting to overtake another vehicle, suffered a tire burst and collided head-on with a white pickup truck. The impact was fatal for the taxi driver, the infant, and five other passengers.
Emergency teams responded promptly, assisting victims and clearing the road to restore traffic. Several critically injured individuals were initially taken to Phebe Hospital in Gbarnga before being transferred to JFK Medical Center in Monrovia for advanced medical care.
The Liberia National Police (LNP) have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities are urging drivers along the Gbarnga–Monrovia corridor to exercise extreme caution, noting that the highway has been the site of multiple serious accidents in recent years.
As the investigation continues, relatives and residents of Margibi County are mourning the loss of lives in what officials describe as one of the deadliest accidents on this major highway this year.
