MONROVIA – Seventeen Liberian leaders have returned home after participating in the Mandela Washington Fellowship, a six-week U.S. program designed to develop young professionals in the fields of Business and Entrepreneurship, Civic Leadership, and Public Management.
According to a statement posted on the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia’s Facebook page on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the Fellows received intensive training, mentoring, and networking opportunities with American experts. Through the program, they acquired practical tools to create jobs, improve public services, and strengthen communities across Liberia.
Since its inception in 2014, the Mandela Washington Fellowship has hosted nearly 6,500 young African leaders from across the continent, building skills, partnerships, and networks that extend American innovation and leadership globally. By opening classrooms, laboratories, and boardrooms to international talent, the United States aims to inspire, educate, and develop future leaders capable of driving economic and social progress in their home countries.
Chargé d’Affaires Joseph Zadrozny congratulated the returning Fellows, highlighting that their participation comes at a time when the United States is emphasizing trade and investment as essential foundations for lasting prosperity. “These young leaders return with knowledge, skills, and connections that can translate into tangible improvements in their communities,” Zadrozny said.
The Mandela Washington Fellowship continues to strengthen U.S.-Africa relations by linking American expertise with global opportunity, fostering partnerships, and showcasing how American leadership can promote progress both at home and abroad.
