SEVERAL LAWMAKERS SHIFT ALLEGIANCE TO SPEAKER KOON

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – In a significant shift within the House of Representatives, four lawmakers have defected from former Speaker Fonati Koffa’s faction to align with Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon’s leadership. Montserrado County Districts 3 and 5 Representatives, Sumo Mulbah and Priscilla Cooper, Margibi County District 3 Representative Ellen Attoh-Wreh, and Sinoe County District 1 Representative Romeo Quioh have all pledged their support to Speaker Koon after a period of loyalty to the ousted leader.

These lawmakers, who previously stood by Koffa during the recent leadership conflict, have now chosen to prioritize the work of the Liberian people over political allegiance. Their decision to join Speaker Koon’s leadership reflects a commitment to fostering progress and unity within the House of Representatives, particularly as the country faces pressing legislative tasks.

Speaker Koon, who has consistently worked to bring lawmakers together, has welcomed the defecting representatives with open arms. A statement from the House Press Bureau confirms that the trio’s realignment marks a positive development for the legislative body. The shift follows Koon’s gesture of extending an olive branch to those who were still opposed to his leadership, a move made during the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Capitol Hill. This approach has now begun to bear fruit, as seen in the recent realignment.

In light of this development, Speaker Koon and his allies have reiterated their call for other lawmakers to join in the efforts to foster unity, collaboration, and progress in the legislative process. With these new defections, there is hope that a more cooperative and focused atmosphere will emerge in the House of Representatives, ultimately benefiting the people of Liberia.
