SINOE COUNTY, LIBERIA – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, has completed a two-day acquaintance visit to his hometown of Butaw Administrative District and Sinoe County at large, marking a return home filled with community engagements, development pledges, and cultural celebrations.
According to a press release issued by the Speaker’s office on Sunday, October 26, 2025, the visit ran from October 24 to 25 and featured a high-level delegation of lawmakers, including Hon. Emmanuel G. Dahn of Montserrado County District #7, Hon. Prince Koinia of Bong County, Hon. Anthony F. Williams of Maryland County District #2, Hon. Sampson Wiah of Sinoe County District #2, and Hon. Romeo Quioh of Sinoe County District #1.
Throughout the visit, Speaker Koon engaged local authorities, traditional leaders, educational institutions, and corporate entities on issues relating to governance, community safety, and development. He also held meetings with local security authorities across major towns to assess coordination and improve public safety measures.
The delegation received a warm reception from members of the Unity Party in ITI, River Cess County, and was later honored by residents of Nyiefuahs Town and Blaoh with traditional ceremonies, including the presentation of goats and sheep as a gesture of appreciation for his homecoming after several years.
In his remarks, Speaker Koon expressed deep gratitude to the people of Sinoe and announced 10 international Master’s Program scholarships, six allotted to Butaw residents and two each to other political districts in the county. He also pledged scholarships for the entire graduating class of Butaw High School, where he served as Guest Speaker.
Addressing corporate concerns, Speaker Koon held discussions with the management of Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL) on labor practices, emphasizing the need for greater Liberian representation in senior administrative roles and reaffirming the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility commitments toward education and local development.
Furthering his educational initiatives, the Speaker announced a donation of 20 bundles of zinc for the rehabilitation of St. Paul Episcopal School in Greenville City and pledged 5,000 pieces of blocks to support the construction of a new sports pitch in Sebeeh, Greenville, initiated by Representative Romeo Quioh.
In support of youth empowerment, Speaker Koon provided LD$185,000 and a full set of jerseys for each team participating in the Sinoe County District League. The Sinoe Football Association extended appreciation to the Speaker for sponsoring the event, calling his gesture a morale boost for local athletes.
Speaker Koon also allotted five university scholarships to the Federation of Motorcyclists and Tricycle Union of Liberia (FOMTUL) in Sinoe and pledged to donate two motorbikes to the group.
At the F.J. Granteh Memorial Hospital in Greenville, the Speaker pledged to donate one of three ambulances requested by the hospital administration and committed to working with the Ministry of Health, the Office of the President, the JNB Foundation, and the Richard Nagbe Koon Foundation to secure the remaining two.
The visit concluded with a farewell program organized by the people of Butaw in honor of the Speaker and his delegation. Speaker Koon thanked the people of Sinoe for their hospitality and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting inclusive development, empowering businesswomen through self-help and rotational loan programs, and advancing education opportunities across Liberia.
