MONROVIA – The Vanguard Student Unification Party (SUP) has welcomed students of the University of Liberia (UL) back to campus while renewing its call on the government and the university administration to prioritize renovation of the institution’s facilities.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the campus-based political movement described the University of Liberia as a “crucible of knowledge” that is currently in deplorable condition, warning that poor facilities undermine quality learning. SUP argued that the lack of proper classrooms, hygiene facilities, and conducive learning environments threatens the nation’s future.
“SUP demands the University of Liberia administration and the Government of Liberia to immediately take action in creating a conducive learning environment for all through comprehensive renovations, improved hygiene, and a healthier academic setting,” the statement read.
The party, which has played a central role in student activism since its founding in 1970, also announced the formation of a special committee to organize celebrations for its 55th anniversary on October 20, 2025. The committee, chaired by Cde. Jeraldine Kennedy, is tasked with overseeing activities to commemorate SUP’s decades of struggle for student rights and broader national reforms.
The group called on students, veterans, and supporters to unite behind the anniversary committee, describing the upcoming milestone as a testament to SUP’s “enduring struggle against tyranny, autocracy, and exploitation.”
“Long live SUP, long live Massescracy,” the statement concluded, underscoring the party’s continued commitment to championing the interests of students and the masses of Liberia.
